soil and water

Soil and water is a program of residencies and public activations concerning the delicate balance between the elements, their critical part in the material universe and human presence.

The program is diverse and responsive, comprising these main components

- an exhibition of sculptural, two-dimensional, performance and film artworks by more than 30 international (including 10 South African) artists, at NIROX, Javett Museum, Sterkfontein Caves and other related venues

artist residencies

- a series of public dialogues and podcasts

- a symposium for international and local multi-disciplinary exchange

- Music and performance concerts

All aimed at examining and drawing attention to relevant global and local issues, and finding urgent, viable, sustainable solutions.

The program is developed by Prof Dr Basak Senova and Prof Johan Thom in concert with NIROX and the University of Pretoria.
