Sebastian Stumpf (DE)

Sebastian Stumpf (born in 1980) studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Nuremberg, the École nationale supérieure des beaux-arts in Lyon, and the Academy of Visual Arts in Leipzig. In 2008, he completed his postgraduate studies. Stumpf's works arise from the combination of brief interventions in relation to found spaces and the recording and reproduction of these actions using analog photography and video. His unconventional movements target gaps, empty spaces, and transitional possibilities in the architectural structure, as well as the limits of photographic and cinematic representation. His projects were created in part during extended stays abroad in Tokyo, Paris, and London and are shown internationally in solo and group exhibitions. He has been awarded the Marion Ermer Prize, the Scholarship for Contemporary German Photography, and the Villa Aurora Fellowship in Los Angeles, among others. Stumpf taught at the Academy of Fine Arts in Stuttgart and at the Nova Scotia College of Art and Design in Halifax. He lives in Leipzig.
